- Amitabha Hospice Service Trust New Zealand, Auckland
(Commonly called Amitabha Hospice). Amitabha Hospice offers free, at-home, weekly, compassionate companionship for the elderly and the incurably ill of any age, religion or culture and their families with specially trained and supervised Support Companions, throughout the greater Auckland area and on-site programs two days a week. Based on the Buddhist principles of love, integrity, equanimity and service, each family member and staff member is accorded equal respect and compassion with regard to their individuality and uniqueness as members of the larger universal human family. Amitabha Hospice is dedicated to developing and maintaining the highest quality of compassionate care in cooperation with other professional community services. Amitabha Hospice is also a member of Hospice NZ, NZBC and FPMT.

The aim of the specialist palliative care service provided by Arohanui Hospice is to support patients of all ages with life-limiting illnesses, based on individual need and to optimise quality of life until death and bereavement. This support is achieved by assessing and addressing the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs of the patient and their family/ whānau. Support is also provided for the individual’s family/whānau, throughout the illness and after death. The services provided include support of the patient in the community, inpatient care, respite care, a 24-hour advice service seven days a week, outpatient clinics, day procedures, a pharmacist, an activities-based day programme, social work services, family support, pastoral support and bereavement support.

Hospice Mid-Northland was formed in 1988 under the name Hospice Bay of Islands. In 2009 the membership voted to change to its current name to better reflect the area we serve.

Hospice philosophy affirms life and offers dignity and hope, acknowledging the uniqueness of each person and striving to work in partnership to meet patient and family needs.
