The International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) was founded in 1984 to foster international multidisciplinary communication about clinical, educational and research issues that relate to the subspecialty of psycho-oncology. The Society sought to provide leadership and development of standards for education and research on the psychological, social and spiritual factors that affect the quality of life of cancer patients and their loved ones, and that influence tumor progression and survival.

Bruyère Continuing Care is affiliated with the University of Ottawa and other universities and colleges. These relationships have been further solidified through our expansion in applied research at the Bruyère Research Institute. Our bilingual palliative care unit at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital provides care to patients and families requiring in-hospital care. Patients may be admitted for a short period of time to manage difficult pain and symptoms, and will be discharged once these needs are met. Other patients may be admitted for care at the end-of-life when their care needs cannot be met in other settings.

Canuck Place is a caring, innovative children's hospice and community-based service that fully embraces the life of each child and family. We provide leadership in improving pediatric palliative care regionally, nationally and internationally through collaboration, education and research. Seasons Centre was founded in memory of Jessica (aged 10) and Samantha (aged 12) Ramey. In January 1995, an accident claimed the lives of these two beautiful young girls, from this tragedy the understanding and need for grief support was realized. Seasons Centre was founded on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive and understanding environment. St. John Hospice, the first community hospice on Vancouver’s West Side, located on the University of British Columbia campus is now pleased to be providing hospice care to the community. Palliative care in the Hospice is provided by health authority doctors, nurses and other multi-disciplinary professionals, providing 14 fully furnished en-suite bedrooms. St. John Hospice is also unique in that UBC’s Faculty of Medicine has dedicated space in the facility for researchers investigating best practices for end-of-life care, and for the training of health professionals.

Victoria Hospice is a registered charity that has provided end-of-life care focused on palliative treatment since 1980. We provide care at our 18-bed Inpatient Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. In addition to care provided by our interdisciplinary team we provide care in the community through our Palliative Response Team (PRT), a unique 24/7 on-call intervention service, provides short-term crisis consultation and treatment. Bereavement services following the death of a loved one is provided as well. Victoria Hospice palliative care specialist physicians also provide consultations for patients in homes,
care facilities and hospitals.
