Call for Nominations – IAHPC Board of Directors

The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) is proud to announce a public call for nominations to 5 (five) seats in the IAHPC Board of Directors to serve for the 2015-2017 term.

IAHPC members are invited to nominate health professionals actively working in hospice and palliative care with demonstrated interest in the development of international palliative care initiatives and issues.

Nomination rules:

  1. Nominators may nominate one candidate only.
  2. Self-nomination is not allowed. Nominees have to be nominated by another IAHPC member.
  3. Complete and submit a nomination form here
  4. Submit a copy of a current CV of the nominee to [email protected]
  5. Deadline for nominations is November 30, 2014.

Criteria for nominees:
Nominees may be located in any country and must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Have been active members of IAHPC for at least 3 (three) consecutive years prior to the nomination.
  2. Have demonstrated interest in international palliative and hospice care issues.
  3. Have demonstrated work and commitment in palliative/hospice care in his/her field.
  4. Have demonstrated willingness to participate and work in the board activities including working groups and task forces.
  5. Currently holding or having held a position within a teaching hospital, university or palliative care organization.

In addition, candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, have access to the Internet and hold an active email account.

Criteria for nominators:

1. Be an active member of IAHPC at the time of nomination

We invite IAHPC members to participate in this important process by nominating a candidate. Individuals who are not members and wish to also participate, may join through our website.

After the nomination, candidates will be asked to complete a questionnaire developed by the governance committee.

The new directors will be elected by a vote of the current Directors and will be announced in December 2014.

Dr Julie Ling is appointed as CEO of the EAPC

The European Association for Palliative Care has announced the appointment of Dr Julie Ling PhD as their new Chief Executive Officer, with effect from 1 January 2015. Dr Ling will succeed the present CEO, Heidi Blumhuber, who will retire on 15 May after 25 years’ service.

Dr Ling is currently Head of Strategic Development at Lauralynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice in Dublin. Dr Ling has a national and international reputation as a leader in palliative care. She represents children’s palliative care at national level in Ireland and internationally she is well regarded through her active involvement in the EAPC’s paediatric palliative care activities – she is currently Chair of the Paediatric Palliative Care Education Task Force and a co-author of the EAPC’s White paper on core competencies for education in paediatric palliative care.

In her announcement to EAPC members earlier this week, Professor Sheila Payne, President of the EAPC, said:
“We are confident that the strengths that Dr Ling will bring to the EAPC from her impressive track record in senior management, policy, research and clinical work will be key to keeping the EAPC at the forefront of international palliative care and will build upon the sound and excellent foundations laid down by Heidi, supported by the head office team.”

IPOS 2015 Awards – nominate a colleague and bring excellence forwards!

The International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) is now accepting nominations for its 2015 awards. Please consider nominating a colleague and ensure that we bring excellence forwards! These awards will be presented at the 17th World Congress of Psycho-Oncology in Washington, DC, USA, 28 July-1 August 2015.

Nominations will be accepted for four awards that recognize outstanding contributions in the field of psycho-oncology:

Arthur M. Sutherland Award: Lifetime achievement in the field of psycho-oncology forindividuals who have achieved international recognition for their work.
Bernard Fox Memorial Award: Education, research or leadership to the field of psycho-oncology.
Noemi Fisman Award for Lifetime Clinical Excellence: Clinical contributions to the field of psycho-oncology
Hiroomi Kawano New Investigator Award: Research contributions in the field of psycho-oncology.

Apply for the AAHPM Palliative Medicine Access Fund Scholarship to attend the 2015 AAHPM & HPNA Annual Assembly

This scholarship provides financial support (including registration and $500 in travel expenses) to US-based physicians currently working in hospice and palliative medicine to attend the 2015 Annual Assembly.

Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously attended the Assembly and who have demonstrated both a commitment to the field of hospice and palliative care and the need for scholarship funds to facilitate their attendance.

2015 Caring for the Human Spirit® Conference, Orlando, Florida, USA – April 20-22, 2015

The theme of The Healthcare Chaplaincy Network’s annual conference is Integrating Spiritual Care in Healthcare. 4th International Public Health and Palliative Care Conference, Bristol, UK, 11-16 May 2015 – Community Resilience in Practice

This three-day conference focuses on community resilience, with practical examples of how caring communities can look after their dying and how to help professional organizations work in partnership with communities. International speakers include Dr Faith Mwangi-Powell, Elizabeth Bayliss and Manjula Patel, and Professor Allan Kellehear. There will also be opportunity to get an insight into death and dying through the arts.
