The Colombian Association of Palliative Care (ACCP) has won this year’s IAHPC Lifetime Member Award.
To recognize the importance that Lifetime members have and their significant role to the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC), we have implemented an annual award among the IAHPC Lifetime members. Every year a member is selected through a randomized process from the IAHPC Lifetime members database.
The prize for the Lifetime Member Award is an IAHPC Traveling Scholarship of US $2,000 which the ACCP can give to an employee to attend a palliative care congress, conference, seminar, or any other educational event that is consistent with the IAHPC Mission.
The ACCP is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 that seeks to unite all Colombian doctors specialized in palliative care, as well as other health personnel working in the field. The association leads initiatives to:
Dr. Claudia Buitrago Martin, past president of the ACCP, describes it as ‘a scientific association that seeks the expansion and development of pain medicine and palliative care through coordinated actions with all its members in the different regions of the country.’
The organization advocates with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the National Narcotics Fund, and scientific societies; it offers refresher courses in palliative care, consults with graduate palliative care programs, and advises patient groups and universities in undergraduate competitions. Finally, it convenes congresses to update health professionals, and influence decision makers.
