Editor’s corner

Welcome to the September issue of the IAHPC Newsletter. This month’s Guest Writer on our Featured Article page is Sylvia Dive from Hospice Africa Uganda who describes the Francophone Initiators’ course. IAHPC Traveling Scholars from Togo, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo share what they gained from the course and how it will impact on palliative care development in their countries and elsewhere in Francophone Africa. On the Traveling Scholar’s Report page, Dr. Ganesh Dangal from Nepal writes about the challenge of developing palliative care in his country and how he hopes that skills gained at the Asia Pacific Hospice Conference in Singapore will help to turn things round. These articles, together with some incisive reviews, abstracts and our Policy and Advocacy page, guarantee to keep you reading well into the night!

We’re also asking you to help us – you can see how, here. At the same time, we want to recognize the huge efforts of our members whose support is so greatly appreciated – please check out the IAHPC Members Matter page to find out more.

On a personal note, I shall be stepping down from editing the newsletter later this autumn. It’s been a wonderful two years and I have learned so much from all of you but I have reached a big milestone in my life and want to take a bit more time out with my family, and for traveling and making pots. The role is fascinating and fulfilling – and you’ll be part of a great team. If interested, please check out the job advertisement on the Resources and Announcements page.

Meanwhile, huge thanks to all our contributors and those involved in this month’s newsletter.

All good wishes,

Avril Jackson
Senior Editor
