ePassing.org free bereavement service solves two of the biggest challenges families face when a loved one is in hospice care: honoring their loved one’s life story by sharing it with everyone that was a part of it, and letting everyone know when their loved one has passed.
Over 94 percent of hospice patients have indicated they’d like to be part of writing their obituary – and this service helps them do this together while their loved one is with them. It’s an incredibly healing resource for families, and easy-to-use.
The service is currently being shared by over 340 health care providers worldwide, and is available in six different languages. Request a free kit if you’d like to share this modern, meaningful resource with families.
Earlier this year, Canadian Virtual Hospice launched Methadone4Pain.ca – an online course for physicians wishing to improve their knowledge and develop core competencies for methadone prescribing in palliative care. The course is also relevant to pharmacists and nurses managing patients prescribed methadone. To date, over 180 health providers have received a certificate of completion.
This self-directed course is accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. It includes three modules: Introduction and indications for methadone, Initiation for analgesia, and Safety and support for physicians and patients.
Methadone4Pain.ca was developed by Canadian Virtual Hospice and leading palliative pain management specialists, in collaboration with The College of Family Physicians of Canada, The Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians, and Pallium Canada. Funding for the development of the course was provided by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) is pleased to announce it will provide twenty (20) scholarships to support the travel of palliative care workers to attend the 15th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care. The Congress will take place in Madrid, Spain on May 18-20, 2017.
Applicants from all disciplines are welcome. In order to apply for a traveling scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

EAPC will give discounted registration fees to individuals from countries in the Lower and Lower-Middle income categories. Winners of the scholarships will benefit from this discount and can apply the scholarship funds to off-set the cost of their travel and accommodations. Apply now for research grants to conduct research in African palliative care, as part of the BuildCARE Africa programme, delivered by Cicely Saunders International and the Cicely Saunders Institute.

Congratulations to Dr M.R. Rajagopal, Chairman of Pallium India, and a Lifetime Board Adviser to IAHPC, on receiving the Human Excellence Award for Health. Dr. Rajagopal was honored at a function at Satya Sai Grana in Muddanahalli, Karnataka, on 23 November. Acknowledging the importance of palliative care in health care, the Satya Sai Lok Seva Trust made a gift of Rs.5 lakhs to Pallium India for its work in the relief of suffering.
The December issue of Pallium News also announces that Karnataka has become the third state in India (following Kerala in 2008 and Maharashtra in June 2013), to have its own palliative care policy. Read about more exciting initiatives in Pallium News.

Organized jointly by the Singapore Hospice Council and the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network, APHC 2017 expects to welcome over 1,200 regional and international hospice and palliative care professionals: doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working in the fields of Cardiology, Mental Health, Neurology, Oncology, Paediatrics, Pain Management, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, Renal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine, as well as others involved in hospice and palliative care.
