IAHPC travel scholarships for palliative care workers in developing countries to attend VIII ALCP Congress and 2nd ICPCN International Conference

IAHPC is pleased to announce that it will be offering scholarships to help support the travel of palliative care workers in developing countries to the following events:

Fifteen scholarships to the VIII Congress of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (Asociacion Latinoamericana de Cuidados Paliativos – ALCP), Mexico City, Mexico, April 14-16, 2016

Applicants must be living in Low and Middle Income countries, be current members of IAHPC and of ALCP, and actively working in palliative care. Applications from physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, hospital administrators and other disciplines are welcome.

If you wish to apply and are not a member of IAHPC and/or ALCP, you may join/renew through the corresponding organization website:

Grantees will be selected by a committee of IAHPC and ALCP board members.

Deadline for applications: 31 December 2015. Results will be announced in January 2016. Additional information about the ALCP Congress in the congress website.


Five scholarships to the 2nd International Conference of the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN), Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 18-21, 2016

Applicants must be living in Low and Middle Income countries, be current members of IAHPC, and actively working in palliative care. Applications from pediatricians and other fields of medicine: nurses, psychologists, pharmacists and other disciplines are welcome. If you wish to apply and are not an IAHPC member, you may join or renew through the IAHPC website.

Preference will be given to:

Grantees will be selected by a committee of IAHPC board members and ICPCN trustees.

Deadline for applications: 31 January 2016. Results will be announced in February 2016. Additional information about the conference in the ICPCN Conference website.

New member of IAHPC team

Genevieve Napier, IAHPC Manager of Programs and Projects

We are delighted to introduce a new member of the IAHPC team. Genevieve Napier joined us in November 2015 as Manager of Programs and Projects. In this newly created post, she will be assisting the Executive Director in planning, implementing and evaluating the ongoing and future IAHPC programs.

Before joining us, Genevieve served for 14 years as Director of Continuing Medical Education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her areas of expertise include implementing systems and processes to demonstrate compliance to national accreditation standards and guidelines; creating strategic initiatives; and collaborating with the content experts to develop educational programs for local and national audiences.

IFA 13th Global Conference on Ageing Calling for Late Abstract Submissions

It is not too late to submit your abstract for the IFA 13th Global Conference on Ageing in Brisbane, Australia convening on the 21st-23rd June 2016. Call for abstracts will remain open until 5 February 2016. The IFA (International Federation on Ageing) and COTA (Council on the Ageing) Queensland are particularly looking for abstract submissions on the following themes:

Abstract submission is now open for the 5th International African Palliative Care Conference

The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) and the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) look forward to welcoming delegates to Kampala, Uganda, from 16-19 August 2016 for the 5th International African Palliative Care Conference.

The conference theme is: ‘Hospice and Palliative Care: Resolution to Action – Differentiated Care for Diverse Communities’. This echoes a vision to disseminate ideas and research evidence to move to action faster and more effectively in the wake of the 2014 World Health Assembly Resolution on palliative care.

Quality of life in multiple myeloma: recent international research and future developments conference, the Cicely Saunders Institute, King’s College, London, UK. Thursday 31 March 2016

This event is part of a series of events being held to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the death of Dame Cicely Saunders. The conference is aimed at clinicians and researchers interested in patient-reported outcome measures and cancer. Patients and service users are also very welcome to attend and can register for free.
