Dear readers:
During the month of August many readers were on vacation, including ourselves. If you did, we hope you enjoyed the rest. We did!!
This month we have several interesting topics and reports in the NL including the policy article from Katherine Pettus and a featured article from Derek Doyle, on French hospices selling wine to patients.
Next month is our member’s recognition month. IAHPC benefits every day by the hard work of our members who are devoted to the advancement of hospice and palliative care worldwide. Members exemplify a continuing commitment to patient care, improving education and developing favorable policies consistent with our mission.
To celebrate our members’ month, IAHPC will be giving two prizes (two scholarships to the World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2015). Prizes will be given in two categories: a) Recognizing member loyalty and b) Increasing our membership. This edition includes a copy of the announcement.
We are happy to announce the IAHPC grantees of Traveling Scholarships to the 20th International Congress in Palliative Care in Montreal later this month:

Congratulations to the grantees for their selection – we hope that their trips will help advance palliative care and have the impact they are aiming for. We look forward to their reports after their returns.
Many thanks to our generous donors who make these programs happen and enable us to continue helping the development of palliative care. Donations enable us to continue supporting extraordinary efforts by individuals in developing countries who are working very hard to promote and develop hospice and palliative care around the globe. A big piece of our support comes from public donations and we have started our annual fundraising campaign. Several of you will receive a letter in the email – please consider donating and supporting the work we do. For additional information on how to help us, please visit the donation section in our website.
Board elections: Later this month we will be sending the announcement for those who wish to nominate candidates to our board. We hope that many of you will respond to our invitation and be part of this great organization.
Until next month,
Lukas Radbruch, MD
