This section features participants to the Palliative Care Leadership Program at the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice, under the leadership of Doctors Frank Ferris and Shannon Moore.
We have created this space in our Newsletter to recognize their work, effort and commitment to improving palliative care in their countries.
Khanh Thanh Quach, MD
Graduate of the International Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program and the International Leadership Development Initiative at San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Quach has been responsible for the development - he currently is its Vice-Director - of the Palliative Care Unit at Ho Chi Minh City Cancer Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In the past year he successfully created and implemented a Palliative Home Care Program in Ho Chi Minh City.
He developed the palliative care curricula for both undergraduate medical students and oncology residents.
He lectures extensively on palliative care throughout Vietnam, and also actively supports the development of palliative care units throughout South Vietnam.

Ladislav Kabelka, MD, PhD.
Graduate of the International Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program and the International Leadership Development Initiative at San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine.
Dr. Kabelka is a geriatrician. He is Director of St. Joseph's Hospice and Pain Centre Rajhrad, Czech Republic - a fifty-bed hospice with a large non-cancer care and geriatric palliative care programme http://www.dlbsh.cz/
He is also the President of Czech Society for Palliative Medicine www.paliativnimedicina.cz and the Secretariat of Local Organizing Committee, EAPC 2013 World Congress that will take place at Prague http://www.eapc-2013.org/
His motto: “Palliative medicine permits the physician to be a human in his own profession in the widest sense of humanity.”
