Travel date: November 9, 2022
Name of Meeting/Event/Activity: X Congreso Latinoamericano de Cuidados Paliativos
Origin: Santa Tecla, El Salvador / Destination: San Jose, Costa Rica
I work in an acute care hospital called Hospital Nacional San Rafael in El Salvador. I am the coordinator of the Pain and Palliative Care Unit. It seems to me that everything that has been learned in the congress will help the unit grow since it is a unit new with 1 year of evolution, we currently have the external consultation and the interconsultation in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team (doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, nutritionists and chaplains), keywords that will make the unit grow will be like the ones mentioned by Dr. Bruera, there is no need to be afraid of demanding the necessary resources to provide good palliative care, because death is everyone's business, we must make everyone aware, not just professionals, and it is something that will be managed to promote it in the hospital, without No doubt it is clear to me that the new presentation of palliative care will be like advanced medicine, the congress helped to expand how to be able to carry out efforts to incorporate in our work environment, such as promoting rotations for residents within the unit, follow-up via telemedicine, fostering a friendly and harmonious relationship with other specialties, opening home visits, among other measures.
In short, to promote and recruit more human talent to apply palliative medicine, encourage teamwork, unit growth, continuous training
and volunteering, in addition to planning advance care appropriate for each patient and family.
