The conference provided me an insight of recent modalities and skills for effectively dealing with the needs of palliative care to the community at large. I acquired knowledge from expertise in public health and palliative care specialist and understood the importance of working as a team for patient’s best interest. The contacts I made during the conference will help me in getting valuable guidance for developing excellent palliative care services in India. I hope of attending such good conferences in future as well.
The four days of the conference has provided me the essential knowledge, skills and resources to underpin the clinical work. The latest and updated information achieved during the different types of meetings will help me in developing palliative care services for children and adults and provide education and training to healthcare professionals, volunteers and those caring of people with incurable illness throughout India. The conference is also going to help in my advocacy work and fulfillment of my commitment of improving access to palliative care particularly in northern India where integration and expansion of palliative care services development has been lagging behind as compared to southern India. The skills, knowledge and all other aspects which I learn during the four days conference will be shared by all relevant people especially my young colleagues and relevant health professionals. I will try to adopt all the best clinical practices learnt during the training sessions and implement them Pan-India for improving the services of palliative care throughout India. In fact, I will prepare a report consisting of the minutes of the meeting and share it with all the professionals, staffs and faculties working in palliative care via e-mails so that they get to know about the recent advancement in the field of palliative medicine and public health.
IAHPC travelling scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for health professionals from developing countries. Without the travel support I would not have been able to attend the conference. I thank IAHPC for granting me the scholarship. The scholarship can be improved by considering to pay for the registration charges of the conference as well. The amount granted should be considered with the normal airfare rates from where the scholar is to travel. As sometime the amount itself is not sufficient for airfare as well.
The skills, knowledge and all other aspects which I learn during the four days conference will be shared by all relevant people especially my young colleagues and relevant health professionals. The skills and knowledge gained will also help me in making me more confident when I will be visiting different government officials, bureaucrats, politicians to convince them for the effective development of the National Program for Palliative Care (NPPC) and the recent amendment of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and to propel the inclusion of palliative care into undergraduate medical and nursing curricula.
