Travel date: May 18, 2017
Name of Meeting/Event/Activity: 15th European Association Palliative Care Conference
Origin: Mexico City, Mexico / Destination: Madrid, Spain
This congress allowed me to know the current trends in palliative care as well as to establish interpersonal and interinstitutional relationships between sister countries. The knowledge obtained will allow me to enrich the academic content of my postgraduate students in training, to achieve a better quality of care for our patients.
During the travel scholarship I had the opportunity to learn several things that I can apply in my work environment: Firstly, the situation of the compassionate communities program of the New Health Foundation, which has been carried out in Spain by Dr. Emilio Herrera and has already been applied in Colombia.I asked for information on this to know if it can be applied in my Country and the evaluation of this country is pending. On the other hand I take some lines of research, new ideas and suggestions to apply in the Education of Palliative Care in my country since we are still developing in Latin America, especially in the part of the measurement in the quality of care. The opportunity to meet other fellow entrepreneurs in the branch and the occasion to establish contact, as well as complementary rotations for my graduate students as well as the know how can establish economic support for foreign students who have under development of Palliative Care and are In current and future training. I had contact with a lot of cutting-edge information to offer and apply at my home institution and I got a lot of literature to share with my work group.
I think the selection process was quite good and orderly, it would be excellent if more participants could access it. I believe that more scholarship recipients from other areas (Psychology, physiotherapists, nurses, etc.) should be involved in order to enrich different areas and perhaps commit ourselves to the development of a manual as a group on the new knowledge acquired.
