The IAHPC is very grateful with the faculty of the Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice for providing access to their reference cards as part of the benefits offered to IAHPC members.
The set of pocket reference cards was developed to provide a handy reminder of key facts (like equianalgesic dosing ratios). They are not designed to teach palliative medicine principles alone. A secondary use has been as a teaching tool for referring physicians during consultation. They can be used as a visual aid during the "teachable moment" of a consultation, and given to the referring physician to further aid him or her for future patients. In our experience, these have been cherished by medical students and residents after clinical rotations that are then coveted by other attending physicians--a very nice dissemination model.
