Green Pastures Hospital, International Nepal Fellowship
Description
The Palliative Care programme aims to provide holistic care to people with life limiting illnesses, and their families. It includes pain and symptom management as well as end-of-life care. Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) is run by International Nepal Fellowship (INF) and with INF’s focus on the poor and marginalised, we are in a unique position to contribute to palliative care development in Nepal, particularly in the under-resourced Western Regions. INF’s Palliative Care programme had its origins in 2009 running workshops for both INF and non-INF staff, and from 2013 we started a low-key palliative care service at GPH. The work at GPH also includes treatment and rehabilitation for people living with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities as well as orthopaedic and plastic surgery, palliative care and specialist ear care. Based on a model integrating palliative care with chronic disease management, the palliative services include a 14-bed inpatient unit, day therapy, clinics, community service and bereavement support, with an active education and research focus.
