Island Hospice & Healthcare (Island) was established in 1979 as the first hospice in Africa.Island Hospice and Healthcare, being a centre of excellence, provides quality palliative care services and support to those with life threatening illnesses and the bereaved through comprehensive direct care, capacity development, partnerships, research and advocacy. Island Hospice model of practice is home based palliative care with main focus on improving quality of life of for both patient and family through pain and symptom management, counselling services, bereavement therapy and caregiving training. Island Hospice is also involved in capacity building of Health professionals and Community caregivers.
