QMMC - Deparment of Family and Community Medicine - Palliative and Long-Term Care Unit
Description
The Quirino Memorial Medical Center’s Palliative and Long-Term Care Unit was launched in May 2019 by the Department of Family and Community Medicine. It started as a service for in-patient referrals, eventually growing into an out-patient service and even reaching the nearby population-dense areas through community volunteers. The community-based services were halted when the pandemic hit, but now that restrictions are being lifted, we are taking steps to revive it. Presently, we receive 3-6 referrals a day and cater to both in-patient and out-patient referrals. In the future, we envision a palliative care service that is accessible and caters to patients where they are: in the hospital, at home, or in the community.
