The Croatian Society for Palliative Medicine of the Croatian Medical Association was founded in 1994.
A new activity has been registered in the health center - palliative care, a palliative care coordination center and a mobile palliative team have been established. The scope of work of the palliative care coordinator and the mobile palliative care team has been defined, and in this way the professional society strives to develop the highest quality palliative care in the local community. Palliative beds and the role of the hospital palliative team are defined in the hospital system.
In 2010, the Center for Palliative Medicine, Medical Ethics and Communication Skills - CEPAMET was established at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zagreb. Since then, continuous palliative care education for all members of the multidisciplinary palliative team has begun. By the end of 2018, about health and non-health professionals have been educated. The professional society actively cooperates with all professional chambers: with the Croatian Chamber of Physicians, the Croatian Chamber of Nurses, the Croatian Association of Nurses, the Croatian Psychological Chamber, the Croatian Chamber of Social Workers, the Croatian Chamber of Physiotherapists, the Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists and the Croatian Dental Chamber medicine.
