Palliative and Supportive Care, Geisinger Medical Center
Description
Our palliative medicine specialists are experienced in the compassionate care of patients facing life-limiting advanced illnesses, including cancer, severe infections, trauma, or heart, lung, liver, kidney or neurologic disease.
Unlike hospice care, which is usually entered when life expectancy is less than 6 months, palliative and supportive medicine can occur earlier. Ideally palliative care should begin while you or a loved one are undergoing active treatments for a medical illness - at any age and at any stage of the disease.
We understand that living with these kinds of illnesses can cause physical, emotional and mental stress. That’s why we provide coordination of care, optimal symptom management, educational resources, and family and emotional support throughout all treatment stages.
