Description
Southern Philippines Medical Center is the largest Department of Health retained government tertiary hospital and a premiere referral center for Southern Mindanao. It offers a wide range of patient-focused and family-oriented palliative care services using a multidisciplinary approach. The hospital also offers outpatient and inpatient consultation services. SPMC has a dedicated palliative and hospice care inpatient unit where patients can be admitted for symptom control and monitoring, respite care, and care during the final days of the patient’s life.
SPMC is also home to the fellowship training program for interested diplomates in family medicine who want to pursue a subspecialty path in palliative and hospice care. The training program is the first program to be accredited by the Philippines Society of Hospice and Palliative Medicine outside of Metro Manila. It has produced three (3) specialists in a span of six (6) years after it was established in the year 2012.
