Linked to the Ministry of Health, the Hospital Group Conceição (GHC) is the biggest health complex in the South of the country intended solely to the National Health System (SUS). With 1,507 hospital beds, forms the largest public hospital network in the South of the country in charge annually by the hospitalization of 56700 people, about 1.4 million consultations, 30,900 surgeries and 3.7 million laboratory exams. The institution makes the diagnosis of more than half of the expected cases of cancer for the population of Porto Alegre
Consisting of four hospital units: general hospital, which holds the largest adult emergency service of Rio Grande do Sul, a pediatric hospital; a hospital unit reference for trauma, and a hospital directed to women's health.
The GHC is also composed of 12 primary and family health-community health services, an Street ambulatory, three Day-Care Psychosocial Centre (CAPS), three General Emergency Unit (UPA) and the Centre for technological education and research in Health (GHC School of Health).
The Pain and Palliative Care Service of Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição, initiated in 1986 mainly with outpatient pain. Currently relies on multidisciplinary team outpatient care and hospitalization.
