Learning objectives 1 | Introduction to Palliative Care covering its Principles, Holistic Care, Global & National scenario, Integration of Allopathy and AYUSH. Pain, its assessment, treatment and Nursing Care like Oral, Wound & Catheter Care along with AYUSH practices. Communication types, process and barriers. Importance of Body Language & Listening Skills. Psychological issues of patients like Denial, Collusion, Anxiety and Depression. Care of Elderly Patients, Dying Patients, their Spiritual Needs and Ethical Issues facing them. Concept of TEAM consisting of Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers & Volunteers. Community Participation, Home Care, Self Care and Respite Care. Communication skills in End of Life Care. Stages of dying, evaluation of symptoms, their social & spiritual needs within the ethical & legal frame work. Different levels of palliative care models & rehabilitation of Non-cancer palliative care patients. |
Learning objectives 2 | Essential Narcotic Drugs (ENDs), Narcotic Law, Morphine availability, EOLC, Advance Directives. National Program of Palliative Care. Psychological distress, its evaluation and management for improving QoL of patients and families. Social & cultural issues, its management, handling grief and bereavement after death of patient. Management of severe pain, difficult pain and role of opioids. Evaluation and management of symptoms for relieving distress. Advance nursing care of lymphedema and stoma. Care of bowel & bladder in patients of advanced stage of disease. Students will learn about assignments & evaluation system of this course. |
