Learning objectives 1 To train professionals in the care of children and adolescents with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses, with an approach that takes into account all dimensions of the person, their rights and values, as well as the needs of the family
Learning objectives 2 To help to understand that paediatric palliative care is not only useful to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their tolerance to treatment, but is increasingly used to alleviate suffering and improve the well-being of children and young people with a shorter life expectancy due to acute illnesses, head injuries, metabolic, genetic, cardiac disorders, etc., and other chronic conditions.
Learning objectives 3 To promote the use of up-to-date communication and therapeutic instruments to prevent and alleviate suffering, whatever the illness, and to enable the wellbeing of the patient.
-To facilitate the preparation and support of the child and adolescent, as well as the family during the illness and in the bereavement afterwards.
- To promote international cooperation in paediatric palliative care as a way of improving quality of life and helping to reduce premature death-
Description The programme of Palliative Medicine in Children and Adolescents 7th edition is divided into three courses:
1. Basics of Pediatric Palliative Care and Symptom Management. It covers the essential principles of palliative care, life-threatening or life-limiting conditions at these ages, health policies, symptom control and various therapeutic alternatives. 91 teaching units. SEAFORMEC credits requested. Start date: 15-03-2024 al 15-06-2024.
2nd Course: Palliative Care in Children and Adolescents with Cancer and Other Chronic Pathologies . Clinical Management. Hospital Pedagogy . Communication, clinical management, undesirable reactions, follow-up of survivors, HIV-AIDS, Covid 19, cerebral palsy. Hospital pedagogy. 81 Teaching Units SEAFORMEC credits requested. Start date: 25-06-2024 al 25-09-2024.
3rd Course. Bioethical Aspects in Paediatric Support Care. Relief of Suffering in Children and Adolescents. Relief of suffering, teamwork, caregivers, family, the child in the face of death, bereavement, value of support groups, cinema and training, burnout, cooperation in Pain, Oncology and Palliative Care, Bioethics and the rights of children. 88 Teaching Units SEAFORMEC credits requested. Starting date: 8-10-2024 to 8-12-2024
The course is mainly aimed at paediatricians, family doctors, general practitioners and other specialties, nurses, paediatricians, pharmacists and psychologists, as well as students of Medicine, Nursing and Psychology in their last 2 years. It consists of three modular courses, totalling 259 teaching hours over three courses. Each of the three modular courses will have its own academic certification and diploma, as they are accredited in a specific and differentiated way. As it is a professional accreditation pathway of the Spanish Medical Association, the credits are valid for doctors, but for non-medical professionals, the course will have the validity conferred by the entities or institutions that may assess the merits of the course.
