Learning objectives 1 | To provide an innovative training program to enhance social work leadership in PELC across the care delivery system by enhancing critical thinking, knowledge, and skills to social workers currently in PELC practice. |
Learning objectives 2 | To strengthen social work advocacy on behalf of patients and families by increasing competency in leadership practice in organizational settings. |
Learning objectives 3 | - To strengthen social work influence in the delivery of care and the environments of care. - To create leadership practice that is sensitive to the needs of diverse communities. |
Description | The goal of this 18-month fellowship is to improve palliative and end-of-life care (PELC) for patients and families, especially diverse and under-served populations, through the development of a cadre of MSW PELC leaders. Leadership training will focus on skills to develop programs, train new PELC social workers, conduct research, and advocate for increased access to PELC services, including adequate pain and symptom management, for the most vulnerable populations. The fellowship consists of 30 hours of training over 5 days in NYC, one year of individual mentorship with a PELC leader and a capstone project. The program is geared towards international and national social work candidates. |
