October is our Members’ Recognition Month when we highlight the vital function that our members play in the advancement of our mission and formally acknowledge their support.
1. Recognizing Loyalty:
Goal: to maintain the loyalty of members by giving a prize among those individual and institution(s) who keep their memberships active over the years.
Conditions: The prize will be an IAHPC Traveling Scholarship or Traveling Fellowship of $2,000. The winner will be assigned through a raffle among the members that meet the eligibility criteria.
Eligibility: Open to current IAHPC members (individuals and institutions) who have kept their membership active for at least two consecutive years by October 31, 2015. Institutions may be represented by a single designated individual.
2. Increasing Membership:
Goal: to increase the number of members by giving a prize to the current member who brings the highest number of new or renewed members.
Conditions: The prize will be an IAHPC Traveling Scholarship or Traveling Fellowship of $2,000. The current member who brings the highest number of new or renewed members until October 31, 2015 will be the winner.
Eligibility: Open to current IAHPC members (individuals and institutions) in all countries of the world. Institutions may be represented by a single designated individual. Only registered participants will be eligible to participate.
Note: IAHPC staff members, relatives and directors are not eligible to participate.
Winners will be announced the week of November 23rd, 2015.

A two-day conference and workshop for practitioners, funders, trainers and supporters organised by Palliative Care Works (PCW). PCW is a not-for-profit organisation that focuses upon the development of palliative care in hospice and home-based settings, in developing countries and resource-limited situations.

The 9th World Research Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC) will be held in Dublin, Ireland 9-11 June 2016. We expect to welcome more than 1,000 delegates who will present and discuss cutting-edge palliative care research from across the world.
The prestigious Vittorio Ventafridda Lecture: ‘Palliative care services in the US healthcare system – what is the evidence?’ will be given by Professor Russell Portenoy, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA. Other topics include: Information technology in palliative care, Mortality followback surveys, Advance care planning, Pain treatment and Implementation of guidelines.
Much of the scientific programme is abstract-driven, and submission is now open on the congress website. A new feature is the possibility to submit research protocols. Several protocols will be selected for designated meet-the-expert sessions, where senior researchers will facilitate discussion about key challenges in palliative care research methodology and study design.

The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) has announced a call for abstracts for the 2nd ICPCN Conference, which will take place in Buenos Aires in Argentina. Marking the culmination of the ICPCN NOW Campaign, and highlighting the need for urgent improvement in global access to palliative care for the more than 21 million children who need it, the theme chosen for this conference is Children’s Palliative Care – NOW!
The three-day conference aims to bring together people from around the world and from all professions working with children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions to encourage the exchange of knowledge, innovative ideas, research and professional development.
The official conference language is English but all plenary sessions will have simultaneous translation of English to Spanish and vice versa. The programme will also have separate English and Spanish tracks so abstracts can be submitted in either language. The abstract deadline is 26 October 2016.
