How was this meeting/activity helpful to you?

Participation in this congress is very important for our country as a way to implement palliative care in our health system. I have managed to know other similar projects in latin america and how to develop implementation strategies to create programs to our population. Its important for me to improve the palliative care to other diseases not only cancer, cardiovascular population it’s a great idea for my country.

How will you new knowledge & acquired skills help in furthering your work in hospice and palliative care in your program/city/ or country?

Now days we have managed to initiate meetings with the narcotic office of the ministry of health of our country so I have more knowledge and tools to promote the palliative care, and the access of opioids to our population, I could learn to other projects in Latin America and would apply to our system. In the institute of Cancer, we will to strength to our work in the field of psychosocial and spiritual needs, so we develop to a psychological guide to our patients and families in this aspect so the presentations in the congress expand our vision. Finally, in our country we start one project of medical education on line mode in palliative care so we have more contacts to support this new project and address the needs of palliative care in the rural area in Guatemala. We have many challenges!!

How IAHPC Traveling Scholars Program be improved in order to help other future traveling scholars?

I think the education is the key to initiating the changes in our systems health to improve the palliative care in the world, the effort that the association makes is a great value to Latin America and counties of middle and low incomes. The promotion of this traveling scholarship must continue and support others projects in the field of research in palliative care. Is the way to create programs to alleviate the suffering in the world.

Narrative summary highlighting the needs and challanges you face

The palliative care are the great challenges to the integral medical attention and the way to alleviate the suffering in the world. The education is the key to initiating the changes in our systems health to improve the palliative care in the world. The needs of the patients and their families must be comprehensive in order to provide support and accompaniment and the teams of palliate care are the answer to these needs.
