Name of Meeting/Event/Activity: 15th European Association Palliative Care Conference

Origin: Bogota, Colombia / Destination: Madrid, Spain

How was this meeting/activity helpful to you?

Attending the 15th Word Congress of EAPC allowed me to share with people who, like me, have dedicated their lives to palliative care in a passionate way, in every corner of the world. It was very inspiring find out that palliative care has become a worldwide movement that mobilizes trough of human suffering and seeks to expand knowledge to offer the best options to patients in terminal situation. The event broad my knowledge in areas less explored in my country, highlights the importance of early palliative care, allowed me to confirm that there are things that we do in my service in the same way that is done in many parts of the world and there are much interest in expanding the scientific evidence, through so varied subject that I found in the publication of posters. I had special interested in the strength and structure of the volunteer's roll, the psychosocial and spiritual aspects of the palliative approach and the advances in the challenges such as euthanasic request, advance palliation and the importance of the emotional care of the teams and the prevention of burn out syndrome.

How will you new knowledge & acquired skills help in furthering your work in hospice and palliative care in your program/city/ or country?

I bring from the event new experiences and awareness that will enrich the work of palliative care in the program that I guide. Strategies to make the management of the program that I lead more efficient, ideas of joint work with different medical specialties to align the joint work, relevant issues of inclusion in the psychosocial dimension of our palliative approach, strategies to expand and strengthen our volunteering in the country, especially in my program, topics of possible research and above all, much inspiration to continue with the work that more than profession, means for me a vocation to serve and the mission that God has entrusted me.
