I thank the IAHPC for the opportunity to listen to the conferences of so many experts in palliative care, to bring them to the Dominican Republic, to relate with the other countries that share with us our ideals in palliative care
How will you new knowledge & acquired skills help in furthering your work in hospice and palliative care in your program/city/ or country?
In the coming days with the different conferences we have had, we will meet with the different specialized societies to expand their knowledge. We will make a conference with: 1. Geriatrics and Palliative Care. 2. Rehabilitation and Palliative Care. 3. Palliative Care in the Oncological Hematopathic Patient. Contributing to these specialists knowing the new information that was communicated in the congress and can update the knowledge and apply it with their patients.
How IAHPC Traveling Scholars Program be improved in order to help other future traveling scholars?
I think they have been very accurate in the way they choose their grantees, the low-income countries benefit as they take the information to their countries, as they are doing it is the best way!
Narrative summary highlighting the needs and challanges you face
1) Enter the Palliative Care in the Health Policies. 2) Review laws that improve opioid access. 3) Include palliative care in training of professionals. 4) Grant individualized care in homes through primary care centers. We learned that knowing where the resources are makes the results easier, the lobbying, the different experiences with countries such as Costa Rica, where care exists and are properly cared for, will allow us to imitate this knowledge in the Dominican Republic!
