Travel date: May 18, 2017

Name of Meeting/Event/Activity: 15th European Association Palliative Care Conference

Origin: Zaria, Nigeria / Destination: Madrid, Spain

How was this meeting/activity helpful to you?

The conference offered me the opportunities of meeting and discussing with numerous palliative care providers around the world especially those from developing countries with similar challenges that I encounter in my centre. I was able to exchange ideas, solutions and compared notes with a lot of my colleaques. I am also in contact with some individuals as well as organizations that are likely to aid my skills and practice of palliative care. I have also benefited from the numerous presentations that have broaden my frontier of knowledge and improved my skill in teaching and practice of palliative care.

How will you new knowledge & acquired skills help in furthering your work in hospice and palliative care in your program/city/ or country?

I will transfer my new knowledge and skills to my students as well as my co-workers, hence there will be an effective impact on our palliative care practice for patients’/clients’ benefit.

How IAHPC Traveling Scholars Program be improved in order to help other future traveling scholars?

Lodging all IAHPAC scholars in the same hotel as well as a get-together after the program would be helpful to fill this form and share fresh ideas and experience gained in the conference.

Narrative summary highlighting the needs and challanges you face

Palliative care practice which is high skill, low tech aspect of medical practice is paradoxically less appreciated and practice in developing countries like mine with scarcity of technological (medical) equipment but abundant skillful human resources.
