The conference afforded an opportunity to showcase the work in Zimbabwe. It further supported learning of how palliative care is implemented within a first world setting.
There is great opportunity for north-south partnerships and the conference was an excellent platform to show case the good work we do in Zimbabwe. Further to this it was interesting to learn about the Compassionate Communities Model and determine how we can take lessons from this for inclusion within our work

In Zimbabwe we operate in a complex environment. We have Ministry of Health buy-in and a document talking to the integration of palliative care within the health system and we are currently looking for funding to make this a reality. Both the International Public Health & Palliative Care Conference and the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care conference showcased how palliative care works within a functioning health system where universal health coverage (especially in Canada) is available. There are many lessons to be learnt from the north in moving towards integration and attendance at both conferences has supported this learning.
