How was this meeting/activity helpful to you?

It really was a very enriching scientific event, having the opportunity to learn about the experiences in all levels of care palliative care in other countries, recognize the importance of interdisciplinarity in the care of these patients, with contributions from each of the areas involved from the experience of each of them in its working groups, strengthens the knowledge we have and gives us tools to find the quality of care of these patients every day are more people in society. The transfer of knowledge from different experts in the area of ​​different countries regarding: news in controlling most common symptoms in patients who are receiving palliative care, allows us to recognize and appreciate the work done in our institution, we really are on the right way to build a service with recognized experts and they will side with the development of the specialty. Knowing administrative processes that make possible the fortifications of services and project implementation to ensure coverage and care of patients requiring palliative care, gives us a different vision and strengthens the ideas of growth that are within the organization , he gave us more element to defend and support the project to create the hospice and day hospital in the institution we work with, so if possible within our health system carry it out there that is looking trading strategies showing no earnings but reduced cost, sensitize and educate professionals institution to carry it out gradually. Definitely knowledge of education plans in undergraduate and graduate development to improve knowledge and skills in palliative care at different levels of care, is a priority in our environment to guarantee the quality of care of these patients, since the specific knowledge in the area is essential, it is a change of thought, which diagnose, treat, cure, save goes into the background, more if you care, control symptoms, give and offer quality of life becomes a priority.

How will you new knowledge & acquired skills help in furthering your work in hospice and palliative care in your program/city/ or country?

actively involved with the group of palliative care and the emergency department in the raising and education of palliative care, to tailor treatments to different stages of oncological disease, taking into account the anticipated will of every person and thus make the better control of symptoms of these patients to improve quality of life, avoid prolonged stays and inappropriate treatments, so we must continue to work on the guidelines of care for these patients to ensure a comprehensive, safe and quality care. Care for these patients in the emergency department requires a differentiated and humanized care, in which we must work together for the good die, respect and grant individual wishes of patients. Most queries to the emergency room of patients who are in palliative care, correspond to non-urgent situations, control of symptoms, such as pain, dyspnea, nausea, vomiting, etc., which are made priority and require a rapid and differentiated attention, the vulnerability of their physical and emotional condition. For this reason it is essential and necessary to create strategies to optimize care, such as creating a day hospital to control symptoms in a quiet, friendly atmosphere and give the patient adequate care commensurate with the disease offering quality of life, support and support for. This is a project we are already developing at the Institute of Oncology, led by the team of Palliative Care of our institution, with the creation of the hospital day and the hospice, now with many more tools, we are consolidating and adjusting the administrative process, process attention to the reality of our population and health system and the organization of professional and specialist care for these patients staff.

How IAHPC Traveling Scholars Program be improved in order to help other future traveling scholars?

For me it was an opportunity unmatched professional growth, I am really very grateful to the scholarship gave me to participate in this event. Not always have the possibility to attend these international events and really having this offering scholarships to strengthen knowledge sharing with leading people recognized worldwide for their knowledge and experiences and create contacts, strengthens groups work and enrich knowledge, making care processes stronger in search of quality and excellence

Narrative summary highlighting the needs and challanges you face

Attention to patients who are in the transition from curative to palliative management and stage at the end of his life, along with his immediate family, required by health professionals, a multidisciplinary and comprehensive support, a special attitude and humanized where a relationship based on sensitivity, active listening, understanding and solidarity is established, along with a solid foundation focused on avoiding suffering and symptom control knowledge, improve the quality of life taking into account the will staff and efficient management of specific clinical tools of Palliative Care. Formal training of human resources for the care of patients in palliative care becomes a priority to provide a quality palliative care. A health professionals teach us to treat, cure and care for the health and disease, but not taught us to care for the good death.  In this regard, training of nurses in palliative care should focus on planning of care from individuality, continuity, flexibility, accessibility, versatility and multidisciplinarity. You must respond to the evolving presentation of the disease to control symptoms and thus actively participate in controlling them, ensure respect for the autonomy and rights of individuals, provide support and emotional support, attend the individuality of each patient in search of well-being and better quality of life and ensure continuity of care by educating families on specific aspects of care.
