Description
Department of Family Medicine, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University, was founded in response to a government's urgent call for a healthcare system in remote areas, as well as for the fostering of general practitioners and the promotion of family medicine. In 1979, National Taiwan University Hospital initiated the training program of general practitioners. Six years later in 1985, College of Medicine of National Taiwan University incorporated family medicine into its core education curriculum. In August of that same year, the Ministry of Education officially formalized the establishment of the Department of Family Medicine. The Department of Family Medicine has been assigned to establish and take charge of the palliative care ward since 1995, the year of the centennial anniversary of National Taiwan University Hospital.
