Welcome to the Opioid Price Watch Project
This project was developed by IAHPC to present and report global information on the availability, affordability and prices of 5 strong opioids (fentanyl, hydromorphone, methadone, morphine, and oxycodone) in 13 formulations. The project was developed and is led by Dr. Roberto Wenk and a working group of IAHPC board members, staff and external advisers. This project is funded with a seed grant from the US Cancer Pain Relief Committee.
Clicking the button below, will take you to the flash map where the different prices of opioids from around the world are displayed.
Differences in reported prices may be the result of higher manufacturing, importation and customs fees, licensing, insurance and transportation costs, as well as differences in profit margins set by the manufacturers, suppliers and dispensers. Overall, high prices reflect the absence of national health policies to ensure safe access to opioids for the relief of pain and other symptoms; while low prices or free for the patient reflect the existence of national health policies that ensure access to opioids for medical needs.
The information for OPW is collected through voluntary participation of palliative care workers and individuals. If you are interested in contributing to this project, please contact IAHPC by sending an email to Ms Ana Restrepo, Operations Officer at email@example.com
You will be sent the instructions, a letter you can present to the chief pharmacist recognizing you as a participant, and a link to the data collection form.
In recognition and gratitude for the participants, IAHPC will provide 3 months of free membership to the organization. Members of IAHPC can enjoy many benefits, including online access to palliative care journals and the possibility of applying for traveling scholarships.
