The International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research’s Palliative Access Program in India, is based at the MNJ ( Mehdi Nawaz Jung Bahadur ) Institute of Oncology in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. In August, it achieved a major milestone when the state government gave both the program at MNJ, and the specialty of palliative care, official status. In support of the work being done in palliative care at MNJ, the government will now provide sa l aries for the nurses, social workers, one senior resident and two other personnel who support the department thereby ensuring the program’s sustainability. The government has also created a new f aculty position - an Associate Professor in Palliative Medicine through the Directorate of Medical Education at MNJ. This position is the first of its kind in India.
The director of the program is Dr. Gayatri Palat a member of the IAHPC Board of Directors.
