IAHPC TRAVELING SCHOLAR'S REPORTS
Traveling Scholar’s Report #1
I am grateful to the IAHPC, who through its Traveling Scholarship Program provided me the opportunity to attend the 4th Research Forum of the European Association for Palliative Care, which was held this past May in Venice , Italy . The Forum was an excellent means to receive an update about the achievements and progress of palliative care research as well as the challenges we must all deal with in order to plan sound research projects.
A well designed agenda enabled participants to get in touch with the various ways to plan good research projects - the diversity and heterogeneity of methodological approaches seems endless and challenging. It was really impressive to attend the countless themed sessions, oral presentations and poster viewing activities which took place during the meeting.
It was also wonderful to attend the joint IAHPC-EAPC session: “Bridging the gap between palliative care in developed and developing countries”, chaired by Ms. Liliana de Lima and Dr. Lukas Radbruch. Having been recently appointed Director of the Task Force in Palliative Care research of the Latin American Palliative Care Association, I was very happy to see that this event highlighted palliative care research in under-resourced countries.
Researching palliative care is not just an option but a duty. It has the possibility of providing us new information for treating our patients with best care practices; this seemed to be the shared vision of the more than 1000 participants to the meeting.

Traveling Scholar’s Report #2
Thanks to a Traveling Scholarship grant from IAHPC I was able to travel to the 4th Research Forum of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC). The meeting was called Collaborate to Catalyze Research and it took place in Venice , Italy during the month of May. I learned a lot of new things on how to plan research in palliative care. It was a great opportunity to see how much we need to do in my country, Sudan, in order to develop and implement effective palliative care programs. I was also able to meet some of the world leaders in palliative care, including representatives of the EAPC, the IAHPC, the African Palliative Care Association and Help the Hospices.
I am very grateful that IAHPC has supported our program in the Khartoum University . All of Sudan is very grateful to the IAHPC for sponsoring my participation in this wonderful congress. Now back in Sudan , I will organize a palliative care course for my colleagues as well as give lectures to other colleagues and our medical students about palliative care.
