Reflections
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the contributors to this Newsletter during the past eleven years. This Anniversary issue is now disseminated in a much more sophisticated manner than it was during the first years of publication. Eleven years doesn’t seem like a long time, but in the beginning IAHPC (then the International Hospice Institute) did not have a website, did not have a distribution system, and operationally consisted primarily of the late Dr. Jo Magno and myself. The first issue was printed as a four page layout, folded and addressed on our dining room table. I hired a couple of people to help, and finally the finished product was taken to the post office. The newsletter became more sophisticated in subsequent years, it had more pages, and was printed on glossy paper, but after several more years because of the high cost and the tremendous amount of time necessary to get it to our members, the printed newsletter was abandoned. In the mean time, a former Board member Joe Child developed a Website in which the newsletter was then published and he also e-mailed it to our members and colleagues. The technical aspects of the publication of both the Web and e-mail versions of the newsletter have continued to improve over the years under the direction of our Webmaster, Anne Laidlaw. I really have the easy job! Liliana provides me information, our traveling scholars and fellows write reports, Board members Roger Woodruff and Carla Ripamonti write monthly columns, other Board members contribute, and various organizations provide us with updates, announcements and reports. I simply have to bring all of this material together in a format that is consistent and then send it to our Webmaster who turns it into a newsletter on the Web and an e-mail version.
I thank you all!
