Florian Strasser, MD

Dr. Strasser graduated 1990 and is board-certified internal medicine specialist and medical oncologists and by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Board certified Palliative Care specialist. He trained and certified in Switzerland and worked for 2 years (2000-2002) at MD Anderson Cancer Center Palliative Care Service and since 2002 in the cantonal hospital St.Gallen, where he is responsible for the clinical and research activities in oncological palliative care of in- and outpatients.

His main research focus are the consequences of advanced cancer with emphasis on cachexia & fatigue, integrating also psychosocial and end-of-life aspects, and the integration of oncology and palliative care in daily practice, through symptom monitoring and shared care culture.

He engages actively in societies, such as the European Association of Palliative Care, the European Society of Medical Oncology (Member of the Palliative Care working group), ASCO (involvement in palliative care activities), MASCC and national involvement in palliative care and oncology. He supports research activities and clinical development of fellows from developing countries (such as India, Bulgaria, Romania).

Currently he is associated professor (Privatdozent) of oncological palliative medicine in St.Gallen.
